Job Search Tactics to Avoid

I often get calls from job seekers who want me to help them optimize their LinkedIn profiles. These job seekers get it! They know it’s ugly out there and they need to stand out from the crowd. As a potential job candidate, you are being researched to determine if you are right or wrong for the job. Your LinkedIn profile is most often your first impression and digital introduction with the recruiter or hiring manager or HR professional. It must cast you as a polished professional and someone who can get the job done! Out of Date Job...

LinkedIn Privacy Settings

Recently I received a slew of emails from people alerting me to changes in LinkedIn’s security settings that supposedly affect your privacy on LinkedIn. The email goes something like this: Linkedin has very quietly introduced some new settings that potentially seriously affect your privacy and your ability to prevent unwanted emails (spam). These new settings are defaulted ON and include allowing Linkedin to use profile information, names and photos in third party advertising. Please see the links below for opting out. My First LinkedIn Makeover Podcast!

I can’t quite remember what it was that spurred me to begin podcasting… but the thought took hold of me and I couldn’t let it go. It was last week that I ordered a Blue Snowball Microphone from Amazon for $99 (with SPIT GUARD). It arrived just a few days ago and let me tell you, it looks AWESOME sitting on my desk. I feel like an old time radio star with it! Not only does it look good… it sounds great. In fact, I used it today for a LinkedIn Profile Optimization session through Skype and my client kept telling me...

LinkedIn Education Gets a GRADE!

LinkedIn Education Gets a GRADE!

Today I was optimizing a LinkedIn profile for a recruiter and I stumbled upon a NEW FIELD! The education section has a new field called, GRADE! Yes, LinkedIn now allows you to enter your grade for the school you attended. It’s actually a rather odd field. It says grade, not GPA. In my mind, there is a difference. I think of a grade as a mark for a class. The GPA is the overall average of time spent in school. Of course, that could just be me. I have a feeling that few will fill out the new grade field willingly unless they...

Backup Your LinkedIn Account

We tend to trust that our Social Networking data is safe. Backing up data is for the files on our personal computers. WRONG! Your online data is just as easily compromised as the files on your computer. It’s imperative that you backup your Social Media content. In fact, this may surprise you but you do not have total control over your LinkedIn account. According to LinkedIn’s User Agreement, it states quite matter-of-factly: LinkedIn may terminate the Agreement and your account for any reason or no reason, at any time, with or...

It’s the start of the new year and I am getting myself geared up for a new year of possibility! I love planning resolutions and creating goals for the upcoming year. Poking around LinkedIn’s Google Finance profile, I noticed a listing of...
