Question: I currently work at a marketing agency. I’m not looking for a new job; I’m content with this one right now, however, my true “love” in life is my hobby, writing books on military history. I created a LinkedIn profile related to my hobby as a writer/explorer, etc. My purpose was to hopefully link up with other historical writers and enthusiasts to share our hobby. However, if some type of job opportunity (tour guide, book deal) arose because of it, that is also in the back of my mind.
My question (finally) – is LinkedIn the place for connecting with people who share so-called hobby interests.
Thanks for your help, Clayton
Typically LinkedIn is not used so much for connecting with people over hobbies as much as one’s career/industry.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use it in this manner. There are probably quite a number of people whose career is your hobby and in that case LinkedIn may work well for you.
Here’s the thing… you need to do some research. Find out if your audience is on LinkedIn. And if they are, proceed with passion, creativity and enthusiasm! If they aren’t there, you may want to find another network that will be more fruitful.
